Educators implement effective planning, instruction, assessment and reporting practices to create respectful, inclusive environments for student learning and development.
Throughout all of my practicums, I developed lessons and unit plans that emphasized effective planning, instruction and assessments that created a comfortable and effective learning environment for all learners. Using the UNBC unit and lesson plan templates, I have created numerous well detailed, organized, and instructive lesson plans that lay out how I will create respectful and inclusive environments that hone student learning and growth. Many of these lessons promoted collaboration and the development of interpersonal skills, which can translate to success in all categories of school and further build respectful, and inclusive environments with the help of learners.
An example of a lesson plan I made that represents Standard 5 is an ADST/STEM bridge building group challenge using only pipe cleaners and playdough. This lesson has students sketch a bridge design, then group up to consider diverse perspectives toward the objective of building a bridge that can withstand the weight of a cup full of pennies. While the objective is to build a bridge collaboratively that withstands the weight, the main purpose that I went over during the lesson was the importance of teamwork, effective communication in a group setting, the ability to respectfully agree/disagree and problem-solve on design principles as a team.
